BulletProofX

BulletProofX is a new feature in Ubuntu 7.10 whose goal it is to never have you need to drop down to a console again to repair your xorg.conf file (do you hear the angel’s singing?)

You can head over to Bryce Harrington’s page to see more screenshots of the experience, start to finish, of X starting up in “Safe Mode” allowing him to reconfigure the card using a basic setting without needing to get into his xorg.conf file.

This, along with pretty much everything else in Ubuntu, is proving to be a giant collection of “Shit… why didn’t we do this 5 years ago?” applications that at the end of the day make the desktop an absolutely fantastic fit for just about anybody. Bravo to the Ubuntu team.
