Well it’s official, BlackBerry has announced the “Bold” which is the official name of the 9000 series of phones that everyone has been waiting for. The actual photo (Above) seems to match pretty closely with the mockup that we posted a few days ago.
Looks like availability will start this Summer first on AT&T, then later on T-Mobile and will support T-Mobile’s upcoming 3G network (woot!), highlights:
- 1GB on-board memory with encryption.
- Tri-band HSDPA.
- Pricing in the $300-$500 range with a carrier.
- Launching on AT&T “this summer.”
- Interchangable color back plates.
- 5 hours of talk time, 13 days of standby time.
- 624-MHz Marvell Tavor PXA930 processor.
- Taller and wider than the Curve.
I’m a little surprised with the form factor being so damn big and with a relatively small screen (unless it’s so monstrously large that it’s actually a wide-screen display on par with the iPhone… but I doubt it). It’s not that I expected some giant single-glass device like iPhone or Nokia but I didn’t expect it to get larger than the Curve which was already about as big a phone/device I would want to carry.
The perks I see going for the Bold right now is the 3G support, full support for the entire Google Mobile app library and hopefully integrated GPS. Then again it really depends on what you need/use your phone/mobile device for.
Full Press Release, Thanks BGR!
