In a move that I can only describe as “This is why I voted for Obama”, President-elect Barack Obama has announced that the weekly Democratic address will not just be recorded on radio (what’s that?) but also on video that will be posted to YouTube and cross-posted to Change.gov along with weekly presidential updates.
In addition to the Democratic address, Obama is also establishing a Q&A session answered by Whitehouse officials working to put a face on the government and shorten the gap between “Government” and “The People”. These Q&A sessions will also be video taped and posted on YouTube/Change.gov for interested parties to following; providing a single, accessible location for information out of the Whitehouse.
This move is being most closely compared to Roosevelt’s “fireside chats” which were direct radio broadcasts to the public. Many feel that the Obama campaign has discovered how best to effectively leverage the sharing-based technology platform that services like YouTube, Facebook, etc. now provide and permanently changed Presidential strategies going forward.
As an interested on-looker waiting to see what the next steps are, all I can say is that I’m happy… very happy with this announcements.
Thanks Washington Post!
