What is the real reason why anybody would want to be a cop? To serve and protect? B.S.!! The sole purpose is to have the POWER. They are people who have low self-esteem and/or were bullied as a kid. However, I’ve seen Texas DPS troopers who were very professional. That job requires a degree or military service. I’ve also seen Austin APD at work and they are a bunch of po-dunk yokels on a power trip. They should require a degree or 2 years military and I can almost guarantee that this behavior would stop.

I think the worst offender contributing to this divide between Police and Civilians is the total lack of communication… so as soon as something like this happens, the Police deny it and the Civilian sues out of anger.

I am *really* glad to see this story take a different path, and not only personal apologies be levied, but the example shown to other officers that might be skirting the line and say “hey, don’t do this”.
