With the internet abuzz with questions like “Will Guitar Hero: World Tour be better than Rock Band?” and seeing that Rock Band 2 is right around the corner to bring another refresh to the winning franchise… the real question is which franchise do you want to get hooked into?
Music line-up is probably one of the biggest ways for the two franchises to differentiate themselves, so here are the known linesup for both games so far.
Rock Band 2
- Approximately 120 launch songs
- AC/DC
Guitar Hero: World Tour
- Sting
- Ozzy Osbourne
- Ted Nugent
- Billy Corgan / Smashing Pumpkins
- Jimi Hendrix
- Travis Barker
- Hayley Williams
- Zak Wylde
- RUMORED / UNCONFIRMED
- Korn
- The Doors
- Interpol and System of a Down
- Tool
That Guitar Hero: World Tour song lineup is looking fan-goddamn-tastic, especially if they nail the Unconfirmed bands as well. I’m really looking forward to these two franchises battling it out.
Thanks Kotaku!

OK, Agreed.
It’d be even better if I didn’t have to have two full bands worth of fake instruments to schlep around. That’s about the only hangup I’ve got on GHWT.
The only thing that’d kill RB2 though is losing my RB1 DLC. That’d be terrible.

I think its great that all those classic rock artist are getting some major attention across all ages. Keep on rocking in the free world!

Jayke,
That is brutal dude, I’m in the “Sweet spot” in that I’ve been playing friends setups, but haven’t made the move yet myself to buy either franchise… also I don’t think you’ll need to worry about loosing Rock Band 1 DLC, the two products are *way* too competitive right now to do that… but you can bet your life that once one of them “wins”, the DLC will stop working across releases and they will start tightening their grip on the market and the cost-per-song will slowly start creeping up.
I love competition, but not having it makes me want to dig my eyes out sometimes.

Ann,
I totally agree. There are songs that I never actually liked when I would hear them on the radio/CD/whatever, but after playing them in RB/GH and getting a glimpse into how hard they were to actually play I suddenly started liking them… that was a really interesting side-effect of playing these games for me, I didn’t expect that to happen.

I mean it looks solid, but i hope all the unconfirmed gets confirmed and will be on it especialy tool, but would it kill them to pull a couple extra strings to get alice in chains,in my opinion even saying and getting a AIC DLC will set this game off.

seriously!!!! GHWT would be freakin insane if they got TOOL, KORN, and the DOORS definitly a bitchin lineup already, but put those bands on there and it will murder RB2 for sure….

Guys just an update, the entire confirmed Rock Band 2 artist and song lineup are available now and none of those artists are in it… so Guitar Hero: World Tour might be the preferred choice for hard core rockers if that is the case after all.
We’ll keep you posted as soon as the Guitar Hero: World Tour artist and song lineup is released. Fingers crossed!
