The Antro Solo, pictured above, is a Solar-Gas-Electric and “Human” powered hybrid vehicles that came out of design shops in Hungary. The car is designed to go 150mpg and is planned to enter the market in 2012 at a $20,000 price point.
The entire car, chasis made out of carbon fiber, weighs less than 600lbs but can still reach a top speed of 90mph. The entire top of the car is covered in solar panels used to charge the car during short 10-15mile trips, but the car also offers stored battery-power for rainy days as well and as a last-ditch emergency effort, both driver and passenger seats come with pedals that can be used to charge the car’s battery if you are caught in a tight spot.
If you have gas though and don’t want to pedal to power the car (you know the American version will never have pedals… yay-fattest-nation-ever) the car does have a small combustion engine that can be run off of Ethanol or standard gas to power it as well.
What is pictured above is the running prototype that they hope to get into mass production by 2012.
Bring on the new tech!

am sure they would pedal when no one is watching or get their kids to do it lol
i hope that “futuristic” design finally starts getting mass marketed (and not only seen in movies) am really tired of the old designs which seem to be “halting” innovation.
thanks to ever increasing gas prices, people are thinking out of their shell.
anyway I’ve been seeing lots of alternative cars for over 10 years, but mysteriously seem to disappear along with their “inventors”

We were separated at birth or something manny… I totally agree and it pisses me off.
The best thing that has ever happened for this world has been oil going to $150/barrel. I’d love to see it hit 200 honestly, it’s the only way we will:
a) get people to care about change
b) get change in the market
I’m excited for what’s coming in 2010 and beyond, that seems to be the year that Ford, Honda, Toyota and GM are going to drop new redesigns of not just hybrids, but I read that BMW was considering alternative engines as well in 2010 or 2012… pretty awesome stuff.
