Summary [9 out of 10]
I heard this game described an a Chillaxin’ (Chilling/Relaxing) city building simulation. That description describes A Kingdom for Keflings really well. The whole game is about building up a mid-evil city at your own pace.
Introduction
You are a giant in the land of the Keflings. They are a short race of human-like creatures; similar to hobbits or fairies. It is up to you to help the Keflings in building their town. Like most city building games you harvest resources and use these to build different buildings. The overall goal of the game is to build a Castle. However, even after your castle is built the game lets you continue playing to ever improve your village. The Kefling villagers do whatever you ask them to whether that is harvest resources, transport them where they are needed, or paint your buildings to make the town look nice.
The Good
- This is a very relaxing game. There are no enemies, time limits, or destructive forces like most other city building games.
- The graphical style of the game is cute and nice, but fits the relaxing game really well.
- There are only four resources to be gathered and then each one can be upgraded twice to make more refined and attractive buildings.
- The ability to play as your own Avatar is a nice touch. It is fun to walk around as myself and build at my own pace.
- NinjaBee has already confirmed they will be releasing some Downloadable Content. No word on what it will be, but their past DLC for Arcade games have always been well worth getting.
The Bad
- The music just repeats the same song over and over. At first it is kind of a cool song but after a few hours you’ll be ready to turn down the volume or listen to your own music.
- Until you get a few of the upgrades unlocked for your character moving large amounts of resources can take a lot of repetitive walking back and forth.
- Two of the achievement are multiplayer based and require having 10 and then 20 people come into your village and build a small tower. Since only 4 people can be in a room at a time it can take quite a lot of effort to get these accomplished.
Conclusion [9 out of 10]
The few negative things about this game are already minor. NinjaBee has made a really addictive game. Even after completing my castle I’ve spent hours playing in my village getting everything just right. Plus, the four player co-op is a blast. Getting together with 3 of your friends and just hanging out together while working towards improving a town is a great way to unwind. I’d highly recommend trying everyone try this out. The laid back pace is great fun and it is only $10 for the full game.

I quite liked the trial game, it’s certainly seemed like a relaxing game you can play at your own pace.
