Slashdot has a post covering a internal handbook from Comcast that outlines their surveillance policies with regard to supply customer information to law enforcement.
The poster found the handbook’s guidelines to actually be reasonable, unlike the guidelines set forth by AT&T and Verizon which amount to “you can have anything you want”.
The specifics of the handbook are:
- 180 days: Time IP logs are kept for IP addresses issued.
- 45 days: Time that emails are kept.
- 2 years: Time VoIP call records are kept.
- n/a: Unknown amount of time cable records are kept.
It also provides a cost of providing such records and all inquiries into child-abuse cases (like child porn) are provided free of charge.
