A while ago I did a guide to getting started with Ubuntu where I suggested folks go with the 32-bit versions of any Linux OS in order to avoid the incompatibility problems with 32-bit builds of some of the proprietary drivers or codecs. While I still stand by that statement, it seems there is a project, nspluginwrapper, that will allow you to run 32-bit plugins in Firefox (or Mozilla) even with a 64-bit OS and browser build. A pretty cool step in the right direction.
