Since we are on a roll today covering PS3 news, Wired Blogs covered information confirmed from Sony that the low-end PS3 (the one that only has component-out) will not be able to display 1080p Movies/Games. In fact only the high-end PS3 will allow that over it’s HDMI connection, unfortunately the high-end bundle does not come with an HDMI cable. Most folks who are used to $15 component cables figure “No biggie” but don’t realize that the average HDMI cable from the average retalier run about $100 a pop, so your $600 high end PS3 is now $700 out of the box. Luckily there are good vendors out there that don’t hate you and will sell you excellent HDMI cables for reasonable prices.

You’re also assuming that Sony is using a standard HDMI connector on the back of the PS3… the PS1 & PS2 have a proprietary “AV out” connector that you need to buy a special cable in order to use (which has the Sony AV out on one end, and composite, component, or s-video on the other).

Hopefully, it’s just a standard HDMI connector.
