Well it seems my co-hort in HDTV internet-research, ‘Lohrville’, has dug up a gem of information about the cost of bulb replacements for the Mitsubishi series of televisions (XX731, XX732, XX831).

Contrary to the original post I made here covering some lamp replacement costs for different TV manufacturers Gordon has dug up information from a retailing citing the wholesale cost of replacement lamps for Mitsubishi sets at $225… a very far cry from the $500 number previous reported by DLP TV Review. I declare shenanigans on that entire chart especially with Sony in the top spot. Sony has never claimed a 1st place position in history for anything related to cost, and I doubt they would start now. I have an inkling that all rear projection lamps cost in the neighborhood of $2-300, none lower and none higher.

The price outlined above is for a 120 watt bulb for a 731/732 set, the 831 series will include a much brighter 180 watt bulb that I imagine is closed to $300 to replace but again with a lamp life of typcially around 6-8000 hours and assuming you watch roughly 4hrs of TV a day that gives you almost 5 years of bulb life. If every 5 years I have to cough up $250 to replace a bulb, that is fine with me.
