Gaming, Technology

The mini Blog spills the beans on 1080p on the XBox 360. It will require the VGA cable for the XBox 360 and a VGA (15-pin/dsub) plug on your TV to get it. The cable will run you $40 (gotta love proprietary hookups!) and looks like this:

And for the folks (like me) that have DVI-in on their TVs and not VGA, we are lucky, we get to use a VGA to DVI converter that will undoubtedly degrade the signal:

I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for 1080p over component or a DVI-compatible connector, but it would be nice to see those options out there.

Update #1: PCMag’s Robert Heron pointed out that the XBox 360 *does* support to support 1080p over component (Using one of Samsung’s new sets to test it) and grabbed this shot:

    Patrick,
If you mean that tri-cable that has Red/White/Yellow, that is the *composite* cable, that’s the lowest quality connection you can have.

Above that is your component cable, then your VGA cable, then your HDMI cable (in that order).

And yes, if you use the composite cable without the Red/White you won’t have any audio.

if u have a good graphics card, say the geforce8 or 9 series it provides a red/white to green cable so you can hook it up to a speaker.. no problems for me, i do 1080p with 2.1 stereo sound, quality = overwhelming..

    lolz,
What does that have to do with the Xbox thought?
