I ran across this post a while ago and forgot to share it, it’s essentially 10 cool tips to use with the phone that you may not know.
My favorites were:
- Using GOOG 411 for free information
- Calling 1-800-4PAYPAL to send money immediately using your PayPal account
- Use GrandCentral to centralize all your different phone numbers
- Using 7 or # can bypass most voicemail greeting messages
- Use 866-411-SONG to ID songs playing from any phone, not just the ones from the Verizon ads.
- Use the “vacant circuit” tone as your answering message to dupe auto-dialers… then again you might also trick friends calling to chat
I skipped the one about “swearing like a sailor to jump to customer service” because a friend of mine did that on the Xbox Support Line while I was on XBL with him, and he got cut off right away by the machine. So not all systems automatically jump you in priority if you decide to develop tourettes.
NOTE: You might have noticed that I didn’t list Jott.com (as service where you can call and leave yourself voice notes that are transcribed and sent back to you), that is because Chris Hunkele noted in the FAQ that the service is implemented by people actually listening to your messages and transcribing them for you. Hardly a good service for you to call and remind yourself of a password… or where to bury the dead body… or to stop buying heroin from Redeye Jack.
